It is the dried rhizome of ''Atractylodes lancea'' (Thunb.) DC., ''Atractylodes chinensis'' (DC.) Koidz, or certain other local species including ''Atractylodes japonica'' Koidz. (One study suggested that ''A. chinensis'' is a subspecies of ''A. lancea'', and ''A. chinensis'' var.
